Name TAG! page 1…

It isn't as obvious as I wanted it to be, but Lou is missing part of his left ear. I'm not sure why that is, but I think that Hoose Two has something to do with it.

Ready or not here we go

Well here it is! This is the first page of the adventure “Name TAG!” (editors or librarians that are reading can tell me if that should have gone in the quotes or if it could just be caps).

I’ll be posting updates to this each Monday for at least six weeks. I actually haven’t finished the whole story yet (spoilers), but it’s about six pages right now and I may have to adapt that as I learn to tell the story. This will feature the agents of TAG! and although it will be a stand-alone story it will coordinate with the Friday postings of YURIT starting this Friday (what a coincidence) and going for we don’t know how long.

Hoose Two and I are beginners at sequential art so there won’t be color right away (we couldnt’ afford to print that anyway), but you never know what bonuses might pop up. I recommend clicking on the image above so that it opens in it’s own window to make it a little easier to read.

Have fun and I hope you like it. Oh and HAPPY NEW YEAR

Whirlwind

Gotta love the mohak

Storm of the late '80s

I had this drawing banked from a really prolifici week and I felt it was appropriate after the wonderful, but veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery busy holiday. It’s also appropriate for the new year coming. January second should bring you the first installment of TAG! with the first YURIT soon after.

Look for changes to the sight and expect lots of random and new things coming.

Vulnerable

There are more thing in heaven and earth Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophies

Vulnerable

Christmas is one of the most important of Christian holidays. It is the story of a God that cared so much for us that he became vulnerable to us. He took on the mantle of human flesh and gave us an opportunity to bruise him, spit on him, kiss him, betray him and love him. He entered human form to heal the rift between us and to give his life to save us. I believe this.

This image is my attempt to distill the story and show only the most vital part- the baby. We are all born naked and wholly dependent on the grace of others. We cannot live without help, but each new child changes the world. The baby is a symbol of vulnerability but it is also one of hope.

YURIT

YURIT

It's a group photo, say cheese!

This is Yurit, or at least Riot and UofR are Yurit.

The Yurit are a race of aliens from outside our galaxy.  UofR and Riot are Yurit, Mortie and Muster are also aliens, but they’re not Yurit.  Wyatt and Daphne are ordinary humans, and the Puddles aren’t even real.

Why the representatives of the Yurit (if it’s even right to call UofR and Riot representative’s – they aren’t necessarily on the payroll of any governing agency) have come to Earth is unclear.  But it’s certainly caused a lot of trouble for TAG!

But what we do know is that strange incidents and paranormal activities have spiked since the Yurit arrived, which makes it TAGS! job to deal with this situation and it’ll probably be a sticky one.

TAG!

Top Agents Go!

Here are the agents of TAG! (Top Agents Go!). Taken from the best of the best of the best (and Buddy) they are the planet Earth’s (or at least America’s) most potent guards.

My brother and I have been assembling this team in preparation of doing a comic launch in January. He’s going to have a team shot for you on Friday and then we’ll dig into story and character development off-line to prep for January 1. I don’t feel ready yet, but here we go anyway!

Puddles

The Puddle Device - Makes What You Need!

The Puddle Device - Makes What You Need!

This is more of an idea at this point then it is a finished product, so please excuse me.  This is a Puddle or more accurately, this is a Puddle Device.

The Puddle Device is used by UofR (and sometimes, without UofR’s knowing, by Riot) to create duplicates.   The best way to described a Puddle Device is half light bulb / half artichoke.

The duplicates are almost always imperfect. (Note that this duplicate human has no nose)  But most of the time they’re serviceable.  They will however, always have the bright green Puddle Fluid color mixed in.

Wyatt wants desperately to get his hands on the Puddle Device Distributor, but it’s in the ship and he’s not allowed in the ship.

Another little diversion

The tools of study

Community and Commitment

You may have noticed that the illustration above is not another agent or alien. You may have also noticed that many of the Hoose and Hoose Too posts have had a certain similiarity of late. I assure that this is intentional, and speaking of intentions this week I intended to post a pic of my whole team of agents. However, as I have been building to this moment over the past few weeks, so has my perfectionism. I have been struggling to capture the image of the scene that is in my mind on my paper/computer screen and I have failed to do so.

I’ve noticed that my blogs are more verbose when the art isn’t working the way I want and I’ve also noticed that I learn more about myself when I’m stumbling into mistakes. So with the deadline looming I decided to continue working on the team shot, but do something different for today’s post (I will get that team shot done!). Something, but what?

This September I started co-teaching a college sunday school class at my church. It has been a great experience as I get to relive some of the emotions and thoughts I had in my college days. It’s also been good for honing my worldview. As I teach, or react to students I am forced to give good reasons for what I believe. I’ve found that that get’s hard when you don’t practice. One of my favorite bible verses is from Proverbs (I don’t remember the number) and it goes something like this, “As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.” The students and my co-teachers have been sharpening me, and I hope that I am sharpening them as well.

Two weeks ago our class set up it’s own facebook group and I was challenged to create an image to go along with it. I didn’t get to it very quickly and a very cute Alpaca (not a spitting Llama) was posted to save the day, but I was cogitating on an image that would capture what we are doing in class. I chose the Bible, coffee and communion as my symbols of the foundations of Christian fellowship (I suppose you can be a Christian without coffee, but why would you want to?).

I guess this week’s post is a bit of a niche, but I hope that if you don’t quite fit this niche that you still enjoyed the illustration and that you take time to engage your community this week.

Daphne

This is Daphne.

Wyatt's daughter Daphne

What? I'm sorry I was texting.

Daphne is Wyatt’s daughter, but she only stays with him every other weekend and two weeks each summer.  She’s a teen and she’s not all that talkative, but she loves her smart phone.

She’s never actually looked up from texting so she doesn’t realize that UofR and Riot are aliens.  UofR doesn’t care for her because she takes attention away from him and because she always gets her way when it’s time to pick a restaurant.

Riot just takes it all in stride.

Wyatt cares a great deal about his daughter, but isn’t sure how to make her happy or get her to put the phone down for a minute.

Hey Buddy

Two's company Buddy's a crowd

He's one of a million or at least several thousand

This week’s doodle brings agent Buddy. With the ability to duplicate at will (unfortunately he can’t duplicate clothes so he always has to carry some with him if he plans to “Bud” (I suppose they are in the Segway)) and communicate with each “Bud” Buddy is the team’s communications expert. The title of the job he fills is communications officer, but there is little about Buddy that would suggest discipline and Lord help us all if he ever gets any authority.

All agent’s ages are classified, but an educated guess would place Buddy in his late teens or early twenties. It is hard to tell however since his “Buds” can age at different rates, and no one really knows if we’ve seen the real Buddy. He’s a little hard to deal with, but with his skills he doesn’t have to be the best at social interactions (he is an I.T. expert (not that there’s anything wrong with that)).
