Now with a bonus dimension

Hulk Sculpt!

This week’s post is going to stretch the definition of a doodle to include sculpture. I haven’t had a chance to paint it yet, but I had so much fun with the Avengers movie that I decided to sculpt a Hulk. I did it as a teacher sample for my art club and they didn’t seem to care so I thought I would share it here.

Here are the several sides of Hulk.

Hulk Turn!

I am planning to paint it and I am in the process of making a Wonder Woman to take on the Hulk  so there will be more 3D (it’s such a trendy word) posts, but you won’t have to pay an extra four bucks for the glasses.

I’ve also included the pic below to give you a sense of scale.

Hulk getting in touch with his special lady.

Hulk Text!

And because I don’t like posting without giving you at least one finished product (as finished as I ever get them). Here is a bonus Wolverine marker rendering I made yesterday because I needed a break from sculpting.

An Idea & Some Color

Wildthing and The Gentleman

WILDTHING & The Gentleman

One is a proper English gentleman, the other is a raving lunatic… they’re both, Los Angeles County Sheriffs Deputies.

Who knows what trouble awaits WILDTHING & The Gentleman!

… Still just a notion, not even fully an idea.
Plus a bonus, old drawing made colorish.

God Bless Texas!

Makes you Wonder

Wonder Woman Flying past Andy's room

The kind of jet Jack Donaghy will buy when his wine goes big with the hip hop scene

This week I’m dipping into my rainy day folder. I was planning to post another Hulk, but didn’t finish yet (finishing up week two of a low level cold that is wearing away at me (so tired (such a lame excuse))). I went on a Wonder Woman spree a little while ago during our TAG/Yurit season and didn’t post em. I’m going to show you two of those and then let you anticipate that there are more that will be sprung upon you at random times.

The first one up there is drawn by hand and colored in photoshop. I always liked the idea of an invisible jet, but often wondered how you would find where you parked it. I suppose it would be the landing gear shaped depressions in the grass and the constant head bumping by joggers. I also think this picture could be interpretted as a Wonder Woman Barbie flying around in Andy’s room. So you are allowed to take it either way (or make up your own interpretation we are postmodern after all).

The pic below is a bit more raw. The only thing I did digitally was scan it and crop a little. So this was me in insomniac mode with limited markers and no patience for polish. I think that the minator is pretty well accepted as the epitome of testastarone so it seemed fitting that our feminine hero take him out.

Something steamy

Steam Punk

Steam Robot / Punk Girl

Last week I cheated a little and used something from the old work files.  It was fresh, but certainly not “Baked Fresh” fresh, more like 3 Day Old fresh.

So this week I wanted to do something more.  Here’s a Steam Robot with a Punk rider.  I attached a sketch of the robot (done after this piece) and a finished drawing with color stages.  Hopefully the small pics are big enough to be seen.

This one had nothing to do with anything, but it was in my head.  I didn’t get it the way I wanted it, but it’s close and I might revisit it – do a little more color tweaking.

Avengers

Earth's mightiest heroes pose for a snapshot

Hulk Pose

Avengers was great. I really enjoyed it. I hope that the sequals and spinoffs live up to the fun of the first one and this is my snapshot of Hulk asking for an Avengers 2.

Black and White is all right

Color Me Heroic

This week’s post is a great example of success mingling with failure. I like the piece as a whole, but wasn’t able to achieve what I wanted. I feel like the inking could be stronger and I wanted to color it on the computer, but didn’t have time so I printed it and used markers, colored pencils and crayons with less success than I would hope for. I included the black and white so that if you want to print it and do a better job coloring it you can.

Pocket portrait and a little more Blade Runner

This week’s doodles are something I drew as a warmup and another doodle from Blade Runner.

Pocket Portrait

The first one is what I call a pocket self-portrait using pen and markers. Take whatever is in your pocket, arrange it and draw it. If you’re willing to expend energy to carry it, then it will tell us something about you. What does mine tell you?

I just wanted to see if I could play

The second one is Rachel at Deckard’s house after playing a bit on the piano. Rachel is a replicant that has only recently discovered that her memories come from someone else. That she is a fabrication of a man who made her to be his servant. She plays the piano to see if she can really play or if it’s only a memory that never happened. If you haven’t seen Blade Runner, and you like sci-fi at all- then you should stop reading this and go see Blade Runner.

These are pretty quick because I was sick this weekend and didn’t have any time for digital work. All the same I hope you enjoy them and have a great week. I’m going to go take a nap and try to recover some more.

It’s too bad…

"It's too bad she won't live. But then again, who does?"

This week’s doodle is a scene from one of my favorite movies of all time. It asks the question, “What makes us human?” and begs the question, “Can we lose that?” The caption comes from one of the last lines in the movie and refers to the woman Rachel, but it can apply to a lot more.

I’ve also included another Roscoe illustration. This project is moving slowly, and if you are one to pray and have room on your list, please add my artist’s block to that. I’m trying to get the black and white drawings for the whole story done before coloring and I’ve only completed one more illustration since last week. Not the pace I had hoped for.
