Potential

A block for any artist

A block for any artist

Nothing like an artist’s block to get you thinking. I’ve struggled with this week’s post. I just wasn’t feeling it. I’m still not sure that I am.

When my imagination just won’t work I go to sources. I tried to draw some of my reference photos and just didn’t care. So I drew my sons.

Then I addressed the block directly. One pen, one brick and a piece of paper vs. me.

I took my oldest boy to see the Lego Movie  last week and it was a lot of fun. The film was funny and had some good thoughts on playing together with our children.

So the common theme with this week’s post is potential. Two boys that have so much that they could be or grow into and one white brick that could be a part of any world. It could be part of igloo for a Wampa, or part of a wall for a pirate prison, or the sign of a bank or really anything.

Dos mojitos hermano

I don't know Mikey, if the Caddy gets scraped Veronica's gonna kill me.

This is my Sam Axe.  I think it turned out pretty nicely.  Below is the original sketch – patched together like Frankenstein’s Monster from a series of sketches – as well as a version of the colored drawing above without the outline.  It turned out creepy, but cool.

Sam without the outline looks super old, but it's cool that you can still tell it's him.

If you look close you’ll see the bruising on Sam’s knuckles… looks like Chuck Finley just got in a bit of a tussle.

Souffle Girl

Doodlehoose Too challenged me to draw something Who. I decided to go with Clara the Souffle Girl. She does mix up a nice batter.

Run you clever boy, and remember

The challenge sent back to Doodlehoose Too is something Burn Notice. Here’s my stab at Michael Weston falling into the darkness.

A little bit of Rishon Rune

Traveled this weekend and didn’t get a chance to finish some of the new drawings I have for you, so I thought I would share an old one I haven’t posted yet. This is an illustration for my cousin’s book Rishon Rune- It’s a Griffin.
